Acura will enter the 2007 American Le Mans Series, initially competing in the LMP2 class, company officials announced today. This will mark Acura's first factory motorsports program in the 20-year history of the company.An Acura-powered endurance racing prototype will make its competition debut at the 55th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March of 2007, racing against manufacturer-supported efforts from Audi, Porsche and Mazda, and a variety of well-equipped privateer teams."As Acura marks its 20-year anniversary, I can't think of a better racing series to showcase our technology and performance than the American Le Mans Series," said John Mendel, senior vice president, Auto Operations. "Our entry as a full factory team in the American Le Mans Series will accurately reflect Acura's position as a leader in automotive performance and technology, and provide us with an arena in which to compete against other manufacturers in endurance sports car racing."The American Le Mans Series draws on the heritage of long-distance "endurance" sports car racing in both Europe and the United States as exemplified by the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 10-race domestic series includes the 12 Hours of Sebring - a U.S. fixture since 1952 - plus events at the country's premier road circuits, including Road America, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Laguna Seca, Lime Rock Park and Road Atlanta.Sports car competition in the American Le Mans Series features multi-class racing of high-tech sports car prototypes and production-based Grand Touring machinery, with both factory-entered manufacturer teams and relentless privateers battling for victory. State-of-the-art technology and engineering, in everything from electronics to aerodynamics to fuel efficiency, are keys to success in the Series. Manufacturers currently fielding teams include Volkswagen/Audi, Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Lexus, Aston Martin, Panoz and Chevrolet.The American Le Mans Series is one of the fastest-growing racing series in the U.S., with a rapidly growing fan base attending the events and watching on television. Although not a full factory effort, Comptech and lead driver Parker Johnstone won three consecutive class titles from 1991-93 in an Acura-powered Spice chassis, with 22 race wins in 38 starts, including the historic 12 Hours of Sebring in 1993. The new Alfa Spider will be starring on the Alfa Romeo stand, following its international public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, where it was named Cabrio of the Year 2006 by a panel of international motoring writers. This all-new Spider has an important place in Alfa Romeo’s enviable heritage, which began with the Giulietta Spider in the 1950s, and includes the Duetto which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary. The all-new Alfa Spider will become available in the UK at the beginning of 2007. Also making its UK debut at Goodwood is the Alfa Romeo 8C Spider concept, designed by Alfa Romeo Centro Stile. It was first shown at last year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California, where Alfa Romeo was the featured marque, and more recently the car won this year’s Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance Design Award for concept cars. The 8C Spider can be seen in action on the Goodwood Hillclimb course at the weekend.Amongst the museum cars in action and on display is the 500bhp Alfa 33 TT12 which won Alfa Romeo the World Manufacturers’ title in 1975, winning seven out of eight races. Alfa Romeo star drivers, Arturo Merzario and Nino Vaccarella, will be reunited with this car at the weekend. And completing this year’s Festival of Speed theme – Racing for Glory – a Century of Grands Prix – will be the 425bhp 1951 Alfetta 159 single seater in which Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1951 World Championship; and the P2 Gran Premio which won the First World Championship in 1925, leading to the introduction of the laurel wreath around Alfa Romeo’s world famous emblem.Alfa Romeo is once again a sponsor of the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Both special editions draw inspiration from the company's recent achievements at Le Mans and the Nϋrburgring 24-hour races.Aston Martin V8 Vantage N400The V8 Vantage N400 commemorates Aston Martin’s achievements at the Nϋrburgring where the company enjoyed success in the gruelling ADAC 24-hour race with the V8 Vantage N24 production race car. Aston Martin develops and tests all of its road cars extensively on the Nϋrburgring Nordschleife circuit and the Vantage N400 recently broke the eight minute benchmark around the legendary 14-mile circuit.The Vantage N400 includes a number of technical improvements as well as enhancements to the car’s standard range of renowned colour and trim specifications. These include a power upgrade to Aston Martin’s 4.3 litre V8 engine, lifting peak power to 400bhp and peak torque to 420Nm. The car also comes equipped with a new Sports Pack which offers subtly different driving dynamics tailored to enthusiasts who seek even more responsive handling. The Sports Pack comprises a unique lightweight graphite-finished aluminium wheel with diamond turning, up-rated springs and dampers and a new rear anti-roll bar (for the Coupe). The Vantage N400 also includes a number of exterior design changes, including a revised side sill design, Magnum Silver bonnet and side strake meshes, clear rear lamp lenses and a bright finish grille.Interior enhancements include perforated black leather seats, micro-spin alloy facia trim and a unique numbered sill plaque. Inside, the DB9 LM is fitted with handcrafted black leather finish, perforated leather inserts, unique ‘Tertre Rouge’ facia trim and numbered sill plaque. The Audi Q7 coastline combines the breathtaking power of a twelve-cylinder TDI with the elegant style of an exclusive yacht. A large part of the highperformance SUV’s exterior and interior is bathed in a trendy white. Under the hood resides the world’s strongest diesel engine in a series-production vehicle – the six-liter V12 capable of delivering 368 kW (500 hp) of power.
The Audi Q7 coastline comes in Inuit, a special white that creates a pearl effect reminiscent of the glistening luminance of the polar region. Audi, the leading brand in automotive design, initiated a popular trend with this color years ago – studies such as the white Shooting Brake Concept displayed at the Geneva Motor Show 2006 have become style-setters.In contrast to the production version of the Q7 V12 TDI, the casing for the exterior mirrors on the Audi Q7 coastline is white as well; the single-frame radiator grill and the side air intake slots come in dark High Gloss Steel. The Audi Q7 coastline has the same body modifications as the Audi Q7 V12 TDI, with widened wheel arches and striking front and back bumpers that immediately catch the eye.The equally stylish and trendy interior is dominated by alabaster white, a color popular on luxury yachts. Also in luminous white are the carpet, embroidered floor mats made of fine wool, pillar trim, roof lining, seat upholstery made of plush velvet and Valcona leather, seatbelts, steering wheel, the front of the cockpit and the door trim. The majority of the switches and controls as well as the instrument panel with cowl are likewise in this trendy color from Audi.In the interior, additional accents are set by aluminum elements on components such as the air inlet nozzles and door handles. Drawing on 5,934 cm3 of displacement, the six-liter engine delivers 368 kW (500 hp) of power and an impressive 1,000 Nm (757.56 lb-ft) of torque between 1,750 and 3,000 rpm. As a result, the vehicle performs like a world-class sportscar – sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.5 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph). On average, the world’s only 12-cylinder diesel engine in a passenger car uses just 11.9 liters of fuel per 100 km (19.77 mpg) – a much better figure than comparable gasoline engines from competitors.
The unique diesel power of the Audi Q7 with V12 TDI engine is not the only factor to render it the ultimate high-performance SUV.


Equally sporty in nature are the vehicle’s six-speed tiptronic and quattro drive as well as running gear with adaptive air suspension. Behind the large wheels are ceramic brake disks. A DVD navigation system, a Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System and leather seats with electric heating and adjustment switches are symptomatic of the luxurious standards in the Audi Q7 coastline.

The initial range will take in the 160PS 1.8 Turbo FSI four-cylinder, the 265PS 3.2-litre V6 FSI, the 143PS 2.0-litre TDI, the 190PS 2.7-litre TDI and the 240PS 3.0-litre TDI.
Depending on the engine chosen, there will be the option of either the latest six-speed manual gearbox, an extensively revised, faster-shifting six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission or an updated and even smoother version of the ultra-efficient multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).The advanced engines and transmissions propel a body that is considerably more rigid than its predecessor, yet around 10 per cent lighter, despite being 120mm longer, giving them maximum opportunity to shine in conjunction with the completely new suspension and steering configuration. Siting the front axle 154mm further forwards than in the existing car, the new chassis reduces overhang and optimises weight distribution for greatly enhanced handling balance and composure.

To extract the very best from this new configuration, A4 Avant customers will also be able to specify the unique-in-class Audi drive select option at extra cost. Available in three specific ‘packages’, Audi drive select enables the driver to fine-tune the dynamic characteristics of the car, including suspension settings, steering behaviour, throttle response and transmission shift points, via dashboard-mounted controls to suit personal preferences or prevailing road conditions.Driver assistance options will also include Audi side assist, which uses sensors to warn of vehicles approaching in mirror blind spots, and Audi lane assist, which guards against unintentional lane changes by activating steering wheel vibrations to alert the driver.

Bentley Motors continues the intensive development of its flagship Arnage range with the introduction of a major programme of powertrain and chassis enhancements for the 2007 Model Year. The Arnage’s renowned 6.75-litre V8 engine now develops up to 500bhp and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission benefiting performance, driving dynamics and refinement. The powertrain changes are complemented by subtle exterior, interior and under-bonnet design cues.Key to this performance increase is the most powerful version of Bentley’s legendary V8 engine ever built at the company’s headquarters in Crewe, England.In the performance-oriented Arnage T model, the revised twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces a staggering 500bhp and 1000Nm of torque – an 11percent increase in power and a 14 percent increase in torque over the outgoing model. Twinned with the latest six-speed ZF automatic transmission, which uses state-of-the-art computer management, performance and refinement are optimised at all speeds. In the Arnage R and RL models the new engine is boosted from 400 to 450bhp, while torque climbs from 835 to 875Nm. “The 2007 Model Year Arnage range is clear evidence of our intent to ensure Bentley’s flagship model remains at the forefront of technology and delivers the performance, refinement and luxury that every Bentley customer demands,” explains Stuart McCullough, Member of the Board, Sales and Marketing.The 500bhp Arnage T is a true driver’s car with much higher performance and delivers an even more rewarding driving experience. This remarkable engine, the fundamental design of which has served Bentley models proudly for nearly five decades, has been extensively re-engineered to provide, in Arnage T specification, 500bhp and 1000Nm of torque - figures that ensure that the legendary Bentley wave of torque is even more astonishing than before. Top speed of the Arnage T has risen from 168mph/270km/h to 179mph/288km/h, while the 450bhp Arnage R and RL’s maximum speed increases by 13mph/21km/h to 168mph/270km/h. When the first V8 engine was built in the1950s, the design brief unwittingly benefited later generations of Bentley engineers. It was a very forward thinking design with an all-aluminium construction, a five main-bearing crankshaft, and a well-supported camshaft. The steps taken then laid the foundations for the longevity of the engine.“People might raise an eyebrow when they are told that the V8 engine in their 2007 Model Year Arnage was first used by Bentley in 1959,” says Bentley Motors’ Director, Powertrain and Chassis, Brian Gush. “But the reality is the basic design was so good that we have been able to continually improve it for nearly 50 years.“One of the reasons the engine has evolved so successfully is the position of the exhaust valves, high in the cylinder head, originally designed for rapid heat dissipation to help engine cooling. Decades later it meant that we could heat the catalytic converter due to the short path from valves to catalysts, which benefits exhaust emissions. This is just one of the reasons why this brilliant engine lives on today.”That first 6.25-litre engine produced around 200 horsepower – the new 2007 Model Year 6.75-litre V8 has more than twice that output, with 500bhp and 1000Nm of torque for the Arnage T. It was the introduction of turbocharging and intercooling in the early 1980s that saw step-change increases in the V8’s performance, and the latest engine programme is no different. Two new low-inertia turbochargers operate with far greater efficiency at lower engine speeds – they reach maximum turbine speed in half the time of the previous unit – thereby ensuring significantly reduced turbo lag and that prodigious wave of torque at any revs.Furthermore, a reprofiled camshaft with an all-new roller tappet system provides revised valve timing and substantially improved refinement. These changes also deliver for increased power, enhanced durability and ensure compliance with European EU IV and US LEV II standards. Although the 2007MY 6.75-litre engine produces around 300 horsepower more than its 1959 predecessor, its fuel consumption is only 60 percent of the original and thanks to its advanced fuel injection and exhaust controls, its emissions output is an incredible 99 percent lower than Bentley’s first V8.Drivetrain & ChassisSuch an impressive increase in power and torque is, however, of little benefit unless the powertrain is capable of delivering it to the driven wheels. For this reason Bentley’s engineering team opted to introduce the latest six-speed ZF automatic transmission to the Arnage range. This state-of-the-art system offers two further ratios than the previous gearbox and has several key advantages over its predecessor:The wider range of ratios is specifically tuned to each Arnage model, ensuring greater flexibility, response and refinement for every model.Performance feel is also improved by using a sophisticated locking torque converter system which provides a more rapid response to throttle inputs.Three transmission modes (Drive, Sport and Semi-Automatic) allow the driver to take full advantage of the new gearbox. Semi-Automatic mode is accessed by placing the gearlever into the sequential manual gear-selector gate, where a new ratio can be engaged simply by pushing the lever forwards or backwards. A sophisticated electronic management system plays a major role in providing fast yet smooth gearshifts regardless of how the car is being driven. Previously the Arnage’s engine and transmission were governed by independent electronic systems; in the 2007 Model Year, an uprated Bosch computer-controlled management system ensures that both parts work as a single unit to produce a supremely refined yet highly responsive drivetrain.“The new ZF gearbox gives us a different dimension in transmission control,” says Dr Ulrich Eichhorn, Member of the Board, Engineering. “Our main objective was to get the engine and transmission working together enabling us to transmit every ounce of power. Using the lock-up in all gears eliminates what we call the ‘rubber-band’ effect – the surge of engine speed without a corresponding acceleration of the car – and gives much more immediate connection of throttle input to road speed.“As the engine speed approaches the point at which a gearshift is due, it signals to the transmission that it is time to shift, so the ratio changes are much quicker - it feels significantly faster from the driver’s seat. Similarly, when the gearbox is ready to change up it asks the engine to reduce the torque just for the period of the shift, which adds to the refinement.”Another important development for the 2007 Model Year Arnage range is the separation of the sports suspension and sports gearbox settings, allowing the driver to select their preference for each system independently – via a ‘Sport’ button on the dashboard for the suspension and by positioning the gearlever for the transmission’s Sport mode.A comprehensive chassis tuning programme was instigated alongside the powertrain updates to ensure the Arnage’s chassis comfortably handles the additional performance. Refinements to the ESP logic system allow more spirited handling without any reduction in stability or safety.The Traction Control system is extensively recalibrated with the aim of avoiding unnecessary reduction in engine torque. The ESP system now monitors the car’s overall stability rather than simply loss of grip to the wheels. This reduces the amount of intervention required and restores power earlier and more progressively, allowing the power of the engine to be fully exploited.“We don't believe in creating power and then taking it away,” says Brian Gush, Director, Powertrain and Chassis.“This new system allows the driver a lot more freedom to feel where the traction limit is without ever getting into trouble. The traction control is much more progressive and proportional – you can drift the car with some wheelspin but it never lets you get in any trouble. It is a calibration which keeps the spirited driver in mind.”DesignFollowing the detailed design updates made to the 2005 Model Year Arnage, the latest models receive further exterior styling changes.‘The revisions we made to the Arnage series two years ago gave the range exactly the sort of contemporary yet authentic Bentley feel that it needed,” says Head of Exterior Design, Raul Pires. “Now with big increases in power and performance we wanted to add some subtle design cues to reflect the differences between the Arnage models.”The performance intent of the Arnage T is underlined by the addition of a new dark finish to its front radiator and bumper grilles. A standardised bright chrome finish is applied to the R and RL grilles while Bentley ‘B’ badges have been applied to the D-pillars on all models.To highlight the superb feat of engineering beneath the Arnage’s bonnet, a newly styled engine bay leaves no doubt as to the potency of the car. A black crackle finish has been applied to the Arnage T’s inlet manifold, while every model displays an embossed Bentley logo on the turbocharger plenum chambers and new ‘6¾ LITRE TWIN TURBO’ engine plaques.Additional optional extras include a 19-inch six-spoke disc wheel for the R and RL models, and 19-inch five-spoke ‘Blade’ sports wheel for the Arnage T.Also available across the range is the famous winged ‘B’ mascot, which saw a welcome return this year on the Diamond Series Arnage.
The iconic mascot – which can retract neatly into the grille surround – was originally designed by motoring artist F. Gordon Crosby and first used on the 1930 Bentley 8 Litre.Interior design updates include a new hide-trimmed gearlever, chrome gearlever bezel, and new Thin Film Technology driver information panel to display more comprehensive and clearly accessible information. With hints of today’s BMW Z4 Coupe and one of BMW’s most famous racing cars, the BMW 328, the BMW Concept Coupe Mille Miglia 2006 took pride of place in Brescia, Italy yesterday (May 10) as this year’s entrants were scrutineered ahead of the event. The Mille Miglia was resurrected in 1977 as an annual rally to celebrate one of the world’s great motor races. All vehicle models that competed in the original races between 1927 and 1957 are permitted an entry. Highlighting the 22 BMWs that have entered this year’s event, BMW’s latest concept looks back to these great racing cars. In particular the BMW 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupe that was driven into the record books and past the chequered flag in the 1940 race. It also looks ahead to future motor sport achievements, with a modified drivetrain and suspension from the new Z4 M Coupe providing the car’s power and control. A body 23 centimetres longer, and four centimetres lower, than BMW’s latest production sports car is set off by bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels on 245/40 R 20 tyres that complement the car’s powerful presence.The concept car looks to both the past and the future in its styling and construction; it pays homage to the outstanding achievements of the engineers who contributed to BMW’s successful motor sport heritage, whilst confirming the passion to construct dynamic cars from the most modern materials and processes available. This remains a fundamental concept for today’s BMW road and race cars.
In the drive to win races and manufacture the ‘ultimate driving machine’, the techniques and materials may have changed beyond all recognition, but the drive and ambition remains the same.Steeped in HistoryIn the 1940 Mille Miglia, the winning BMW 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupe recorded an incredible, and thoroughly modern, 166.7 kmh average speed over the course’s 1,000 miles. This remains the fastest average speed for any Mille Miglia.The BMW 328 was one of the most successful competitive vehicles in BMW’s long motor sport history. Introduced in 1936 the racing specification 328 won its class in almost every race in which it competed between 1936 and 1940, and continued winning races in the 1940s and 1950s.In 2004, the BMW 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupe became the first car to win both the Mille Miglia (1940) and the modern-day classical version of the race.The design team responsible for the original 328 succeeded without the benefit of computers. Building models was the only option. But despite the digital revolution, modelling remains a fundamental part of the design process for today’s BMWs. The company’s designers remain loyal to this process as it connects them emotionally to the form of a new product. During the design of the BMW Concept Coupe Mille Miglia 2006, the designers took a step back in time and formed the car from plaster models rather than clay. Quite literally a more ‘hands-on’, labour intensive process. The result is a greater appreciation within the design team of why classic racing cars are perceived as more emotional and artistic objects than today’s computer-generated racing cars.The concept car’s hinged hard-top roof is a reference to the relaxation of the rules at Le Mans when racing cars moved from soft-top to hard-top construction as closed vehicles became eligible to race. This precipitated the development of the 328 Touring Coupe from its roadster origins, allowing the model to develop further as a lightweight, aerodynamic ‘bespoke’ racing car. Similarly, the new Z4 Coupe has been derived from the Z4 Roadster soft-top as a ‘behind-the-scenes’ project driven by the designers’ enthusiasm. This coupe development leading to the production of the new Z4 M Coupe Racing car.Thoroughly Modern MilleWhile the hinged roof structure recalls past events, the principle function of the hinged system, that also raises the cockpit, negates the requirement for doors (reducing weight) and increases torsional stiffness.The car benefits from an extremely lightweight chassis. The most modern design processes were used to ‘stretch’ an aluminium shell over a lattice frame. The body is also constructed from lightweight materials, with carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) clothing the entire vehicle. As a nod to the past this is painted in ‘fine silver’, a full-gloss paint colour with extremely fine pigments that hints to classic silver race colours.The large circular headlamps inspired by the shape of the 328 units are not integrated into the body of the car, but attached as flat elements. Modern LED technology facilitates this design function that frees up the designers to develop more flowing and unbroken body forms. This manifests itself on the Concept Coupe by uninterrupted bonnet and side panels.Inspired by BMW’s glorious motor racing heritage, the science of aerodynamics was addressed with thoroughly modern techniques and design resolutions. Side panels and the rear section of the car were designed to allow turbulence-free flow of air up to the tail where the airflow is separated. Carbon-fibre underbody fins and diffusers on the front and rear aprons also contribute to the car’s aerodynamics. Meanwhile air intakes in the A-pillars, arranged in a slim Z-line, direct cooling air from the six-cylinder in-line engine and contribute to developing downforce and reducing turbulence at the wheel housings.The Concept Coupe is powered by the multi-award winning BMW six-cylinder inline petrol engine that powers the new BMW Z4 M Coupe. Modifications have been made to the inlet and exhaust systems of the 343 hp unit to give the concept car more of a ‘racing’ sound at both idle and full throttle. The interior retains the functional simplicity prevalent in both 328 racing cars and Z4 production cars, but in a modern presentation.
Only three materials are used; thin stainless steel, untreated cowhides, Lycra fabric. This purist form even extends to letterings, logos and symbols embossed into surfaces using laser technology.

A special occasion warrants a special means of transportation: For the Academy Awards Ceremony 2007 GeigerCars.de built the exclusive STAR FORCE VIP shuttle, based on the latest Cadillac Escalade ESV. The STAR FORCE was commissioned by the German TV network ProSieben.The American SUV was completely reworked by the tuning specialists from GeigerCars.de. The 403-hp / 296-kW 6.2-liter V8 engine gains an additional 20 horsepower with the GeigerCars.de stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system. On the outside the upgraded Cadillac is an instant eye catcher with its large 10Jx24 chrome wheels and size 305/35 ZR 24 Pirelli Scorpion tires. In addition the ride height was lowered by 100 millimeters and the body was painted in a special ProSieben STAR FORCE color scheme. Bright STAR FORCE LED stars adorn the exclusive VIP shuttle at night. The front received a new and even more commanding chrome grille.

But that’s not all: ProSieben TV host Annemarie Warnkross served as the model for the imposing gold-plated hood ornament.

The interior also features an especially exclusive design: The red and black leather seats with STAR FORCE logo are custom-made by GeigerCars.de as is the rear partition wall with retractable glass pane. A Toshiba LCD projector can beam the images of either digital TV broadcasts or a DVD onto the glass pane coated with a special holographic projection surface foil. The accompanying sound comes from a Hi-Fi system with more than 1,000 watts of power and loudspeakers and subwoofer custom-calibrated to the Escalade’s interior.
To provide the two rear passengers with maximum of legroom the body specialists from GeigerCars.de modified the floorpan of the Cadillac.
The seats are upholstered with the finest leather sporting the ProSieben colors red and black, and offer maximum seating comfort. The sideboard mounted behind the partition wall comes with an innovative feature: At the push of a button it glides rearward to present the rear occupants with drinks or appetizers.The GeigerCars.de designers further equipped the black 4x4 with a gigantic Webasto power folding roof over the rear seats to let the VIP guests enjoy the California sun.Immediately after completion the GeigerCars.de STAR FORCE VIP shuttle was flown to Los Angeles for the Academy Awards Ceremony on February 25, 2007. There ProSieben will use it for its coverage of the world’s most important motion picture award.

At "Auto China 2006", this year's international motor show in Beijing, Shanghai GM is showcasing new models such as the Cadillac SLS and Escalade. In addition, an important new offering from the Wuling brand is to be premiered. Furthermore, GM concept cars such as the Saab Aero-X, Buick Enclave and Chevrolet WTCC Ultra will make their public debuts in China.GM's luxury brand, Cadillac has enjoyed remarkable success since its introduction to the China luxury market in 2004. The Cadillac China portfolio, consisting of the CTS sedan, the XLR roadster and the SRX crossover, will now be complimented with the all-new SLS and the Escalade SUV. Based on the STS sport sedan, the SLS has been lengthened by 100mm to add rear seat legroom. The interior is designed to meet specific local needs in this primarily chauffeur-driven luxury segment. Three engine options will be available which include the 2.8L V6, a 3.6L V6 and the top-level Northstar 4.6L V8 with 239kW/320hp.
